Ogilby Cup 2025
Group A proved too tough for both The Hawk and The Spratt (each accompanied by a John) and the ever-reliable pairing of Nithi/Lewis qualified just behind Richardson and Poste. The qualifiers from Group B were Coyne & Cherry and Smeeth & Hamilton. Although eliminated, Messenger & Woodfield did beat the eventual winners. The final group saw the highest handicap pairing (Buchanan & Littell) come top just ahead of the youngest pairing (George & Tippetts).
On finals day Tippetts & George dished out a sound thrashing to Nithi & Lewis 6/1. Thereafter Richard George had to leave in an emergency situation (though all is now OK) and was replaced by Nithi who then took his second sound thrashing of the day alongside Tippetts – losing a semi-final to Coyne & Cherry 6/1. In the other half of the draw Buchanan & Littell fended off quadruple teapots to win 6/4 v Pablo & Andrew Hamilton and then James’ fearsome serve to despatch Richardson/Poste 6/3.
In the final our Ladies’ champion Miranda Coyne and Richard Cherry managed the handicap well, achieving yet another sound thrashing, this time of Buchanan & Littell. Prizes duly dished out, it’s a shame there wasn’t one for shot of the tournament, as Lawrence Littell volleying in front of the tambour to win a 2-yard chase would surely have won.
