Jesmond Dene

Jesmond Dene sent four players on the long trip south with each of them taking part in both doubles and singles rubbers with each rubber played as a single 8-game set.

The morning started well for Moreton with Simon Hobson triumphing over Robert MacAlister 8-5 before Simon then completed the double over Robert in the first doubles rubber which saw Simon and Richard Seymour-Mead beating Robert and Tony Harrison 8/6.

The final game of the morning saw Richard complete the morning whitewash with an 8-5 victory over Tony giving Moreton a 3-0 lead going into lunch.

Following the break Jesmond started a comeback with Fiona Harrison beating John Cook 8/6, when asked whether this was as a result of lunch both Cook and cook denied it.

The result left the match at 3-1 with both teams looking for victory in the second doubles rubber. John Cook was able to overturn the singles result with his partner Jonny Miller beating Fiona and her partner Simon Johnson 8-6.

Jonny then finished off the day with an 8-0 win in the final set to leave Moreton with a 5-1 victory in the match.

Our thanks go to Jesmond Dene for travelling to see us and for some enjoyable games which were more closely fought than the final result might suggest.
